What has changed in photoprotection

In recent decades, the use of sunscreens and other cosmetic products containing UV filters has increased in order to protect human skin from the harmful effects of UVR. Burns, immunosuppression, photoaging, photocarcinogenesis are the most significant side effects of solar radiation in humans. Despite the proven negative effects of solar radiation, there is concern about the use of sunscreens. In some chemical sunscreens there are negative hypersensitivity skin reactions, neurotoxicity and harmful effects on the endocrine system. Sunscreens can be harmful to the environment, especialy if they end up in the human food chain. Protection against the deleterious effects of solar radiation is needed. The development of new photoprotective products should be in line with our growing environmental knowledge, expectations and warnings.
