Early detection of hematological malignancies in the general practitioner’s office

Malignant diseases represent one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in the European population and their incidence has been increasing for a long time. The patient’s prognosis is fundamentally dependent on early diagnosis. For this reason, early detection of malignancies is one of the fundamental pillars of modern medicine and at the same time the most effective strategy for reducing mortality from oncological diseases. The general practitioner’s outpatient clinic plays key role in this process. The GP is usually the first contact with the patient and has a unique opportunity to detect warning symptoms. In addition to actively searching for risk symptoms, ensures the implementation of preventive check-ups, health screenings and coordinates further diagnostic procedures. Continuity of care and long-term care make it possible to recognize even subtle changes that may signal an incipient malignancy. The aim of this work, is to point out the possibilities, importance and practical procedures for early detection of hematologic malignancy in the GP’s office.
