Urinary retention in women
Urinary retention in women is relatively rare but clinically significant condition that can be categorized as complete or partial; acute or chronic; symptomatic or asymptomatic. The causative mechanism may be obstructive with high bladder pressure, non-obstructive with low intravesical pressure, or combination of both. The article provides an overview of current knowledge on the epidemiology, causes, diagnosis, and management of urinary retention in women, including differential diagnosis, prognosis, and possible future developments in this area.
