Recurrent urinary tract infections in kidney transplant patients
Recurrent urinary tract infections after kidney transplantation are a complex problem, where factors of the transplant recipient, surgery, pathogens and immunosuppression intersect. Management is also challenging due to the possible presence of multiple risk factors, including anatomical and functional changes of the urinary tract. The key to success is prompt culture diagnosis, targeted therapy, minimization of immunosuppression during infection and consistent prevention to reduce morbidity and graft loss with higher mortality. The article comprehensively evaluates the current knowledge of the etiopathogenesis, diagnostics, therapy and prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infections in patients after kidney transplantation.
