Patient with dizziness general practitioner´s office
Vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders constitute a quite complex differential diagnostic issue. These symptoms could be assigned to some not so serious but also life-threatening health condition. The literature states that up to 20 % of ischemic strokes affect the vertebrobasilar circulation and at 75 % acute vertigo is the dominant symptom. On the other hand, only 0.7 % of the acute dizziness cases are caused by CMP. Due to the low availability of specialized medical facilities in the Slovak Republic, for the patients suffering from dizziness the general practitioner remains the first contact, providing assistance and also deciding on further diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
