Infections in the immune window of the infant: two case reports
The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of maternal vaccination in protecting newborns during the immune gap. We present two case reports of severe respiratory infections in young infants: pertussis and influenza B. Both infections occurred in infants who were too young to be vaccinated according to the national schedule. The discussion focuses on the role of maternal antibodies, neonatal vulnerability, and preventive strategies through vaccination during pregnancy. The conclusion emphasises the need for increased awareness among general practitioners and obstetricians regarding the safety and benefits of maternal immunisation.
