Diagnostika karcinomu prostaty – současné možnosti a limitace transrektální ultrazvukem vedené biopsie prostaty
Diagnostics of prostatic cancer – current possibilities and limitations of transrectal ultrasound guided needle biopsy of the prostate Transrectal ultrasonography guided needle biopsy of the prostate has become the procedure of choice for obtaining high-quality tissue cores for histopatological assessment in the patients with suspected prostate cancer. The sextant method has become widely accepted as the „gold standard“ biopsy technique. However, concern has arisen that the sextant biopsy method under-samples the prostate and consequently may fail to detect a significant proportion of clinically important tumours. It is uncertain how many biopsy cores are needed to optimize the detection of these tumors. Improved glandular coverage, by either taking more biopsies per gland and/or optimalization of the systematic biopsy scheme, should minimize sampling inacuracy. The sampling error of current prostatic biopsy techniques is a matter of concern. Key words: prostate cancer, guided needle biopsy of the prostate, transrectal ultrasonography.
