Antibiotická profylaxe při transrektální biopsii prostaty
Antibiotic prophylaxis in transrectal prostate biopsies Prostate cancer is the most frequent malignant tumour in men and takes the second place as the cause of death in Europe. Prevalence does not change importantly, but the incidence markedly rises. The reason is an introduction of screening examination or more precisely early detection of prostate carcinoma into the routine practice. Part of the examination process is necessarily prostate biopsy too, bringing final histological finding essential for the decision about further therapy. Prostate biopsy, performed nowadays usually via transrectal approach under the control of ultrasound, belongs among nearly ordinary examinations performed in urological ambulance. Many complications can accompany this examination. Authors summarise published and own experiences with antibiotic prophylaxis of transrectal prostate biopsy infectious complications.
