Primary and functional patency of radiocephalic arteriovenous fistulas: 24-month results from a single center

Introduction: The radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the preferred vascular access for hemodialysis. The aim of this study was to evaluate its primary and functional patency a tour center. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 114 patients with a radiocephalic AVF. Primary and functional patency were monitored over a 24-month period using Kaplan–Meier survival curves. Results: After 24 months, the primary patency rate was 55.3 % and the functional patency rate was 80.7 %. The mean time to the first intervention was estimated at 16.85 months.

Conclusion: The results are consistent with available literature and confirm the importance of thorough preoperative evaluation and management of comorbid conditions.
