Intrauterine device as a rare cause of intestinal obstruction

A 45-year-old female patient was hospitalized in the surgical department with 3 days of lower abdominal pain, with nausea, vomiting and obstipation. In the personal history, personal has inserted IUD for 20-30 years. Laboratory examinations show elevation of inflammatory markers. CT scan of the abdomen confirmed intestinal obstruction with migration of the IUD intraperitoneally. After urgent pre-operative preparation, partial resection of the ileum, side to side ileoileoanastomosis, hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomies were performed.
