Memory disturbances in patients with schizophrenia Cognitive impairments have been regarded as basic symptoms of schizophrenia already by Kraepelin and Bleuler. Attention, memory and executive functions are three main affected components of cognitive functions. Results of several investigations signify that cognitive deficit exists even before the manifestation of disease, it could be regarded as a marker of schizophrenia. Seriousness of cognitive deficit seems to be a strong predictor of the impact of disease on patients life. Clear understanding of cognitive dysfunctions could help to prevent deterioration of cognitive functions or ensure at least partial restitution. Authors of this report present review of recent opinions on memory disorders during schizophrenia. Key words: schizophrenia, memory disorders, working memory.
