Pulmonary actinomycosis in 10-year-old girl
The authors present a case of a 10-year-old girl with complicated pleuropneumonia and formation of large left-sided empyema. Microbiological examination of empyema samples revealed Actinomyces meyeri as the etiological agent. The girl was immune-competent and responded adequately with complete clinical response and improvement of radiological findings in the lung parenchyma and pleural cavities. This is a rare case of actinomycosis in a child in an atypical age with no proven predisposing immune deficiency.
