Pes equinovarus congenitus (congenital clubfoot). Part I: clinical picture, diagnostic Considerable large part of locomotion apparatus congenital abnormalities represent foot deformities. Mostly are these abnormalities apparent already at birth so usually not only orthopaedist meets with it, but also a paediatrician. One of the most known and also the most frequent affections of child’s foot is a clubfoot or pes equinovarus congenitus. It is a complex deformity of the foot, which consists of equinus, varus, adductus and “cavus” disorder of foot’s position. The problem is, that the same diagnosis can contain position deformity with good prognosis, but also rigid deformity, which resistant to the treatment. These reasons are particularly responsible for inability to predict foot’s development in all cases. Presence of characteristic deformity should simultaneously initiate examinations to exclude other, particularly neurological, diseases. Aim of this paper is to present contemporary insight into this congenital abnormality. Differential diagnostic consist of some other, more frequent too, foot deformities present at birth or in early childhood. Key words: Clubfoot, diagnosis, differential diagnosis.
