Obezita a metabolický syndrom
OBESITY AND METABOLIC SYNDROME Genetic factors contribute significantly to the development of obesity and the metabolic syndrome and their mutual relationship would suggest a possible common pathogenesis for these conditions which have a high morbidity and mortality. Obesity is considered to be a systemic disease, which can occur within the framework of the syndrome of insulin resistance in children, even those of pre-school age. The negative external factors contributing to the development of obesity and symptoms of insulin resistance are well documented. It is thus necessary for paediatricians to deal actively with them because significant improvements in a patient’s adult life can be attained if the family has been well-informed in the early stages of the condition and preventive measurements have been taken. Key words: obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, syndrome 5H, diabetes mellitus type II.
