Nocturnal enuresis in children of the Choosing Wisely context
Nocturnal enuresis (enuresis) is one of the most common functional disorders in childhood and represents a significant medical and psychosocial burden for the child and his family. Despite clearly defined diagnostic criteria and available therapeutic recommendations, it is often accompanied by overdiagnosis and inappropriate therapeutic interventions in clinical practice. Diagnosis is in most cases clinical and does not require routine laboratory or imaging examinations. Management is based primarily on family education, regimen and behavioral measures, and targeted indicated treatment. The article summarizes current recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of nocturnal enuresis in children and emphasizes the importance of applying the principles of the Choosing Wisely initiative in everyday pediatric practice.
