When COVID-19 is not the only cause of fever
Urinary tract infections are among the common causes of febrile conditions in children and adolescents. In a period of high circulation of respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the diagnostic process can be complicated by the presence of a positive viral test, which at first glance seems to be a sufficient explanation for the clinical picture. The author presents a case report of an 18-year-old female patient with febrile urinary tract infection caused by Escherichia coli in the presence of a concurrent COVID-19 infection, with emphasis on the dynamics of the clinical condition, inflammatory parameters and the importance of repeated clinical reassessment.
