Idiopathic musculosCeletal pain syndromes in children The incidence of idiopathic musculosceletal pain syndromes in children is in the range of 4,2 to 15,5 %, which makes them one of the most frequent locomotory system disorders of childhood. Although unclear in aetiology and terminology, these disorders are very distinct in symptomatology. The main complaint is localized or diffuse widespread pain which, following negative results from intensive clinical, laboratory or imaging investigations, has an unknown aetiology. The authors review the most recent opinions on the terminology and aetiology of the idiopathic musculoskeletal pain syndromes and proffer their own diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms.
