Alleviating factors of malignant pain – a case study from home hospice care
Pain relief is one of the key needs perceived by the public for patients with cancer. Palliative medicine enables the administration of effective analgesic drugs while, through its holistic approach, it can detect multiple dimensions of malignant pain. When this pain includes social, emotional, or spiritual dimensions, it can even be referred to as existential pain. Home hospice care, by being present in the patient’s natural and safe environment, helps prevent several aggravating factors of this pain. In addition to medical assistance, it is a profoundly supportive service
- a form of familiar companionship. In the case of an incurable illness in a parent who must leave behind their underage child, they may experience a longing for a miracle. Yet, even seemingly small interventions can alleviate the sources of suffering for both the patient and their loved ones.
