Prognosis in MDS, prognostic scoring systems in MDS, (IPSS, WPSS, R-IPSS)

Myelodysplatic syndrome (MDS) is a group of clonal myeloid disorders characterized by peripheral blood cytopenias and increased risk of acute leukemic evolution (1). Their prognosis is different, depending on many prognostic factors. Wide prognostic heterogenity of MDS subgroups poses a problem to choose eligible therapeutic option, and correct evaluation of treatment. Using of prognostic systems is an essential part of consideration before choosing the best treatment option. Several prognostic systems now being used to categorize patients to different groups that help to stratify the risk of the disease and choose optimal treatment option.
