Multidisciplinary management of non-small cell lung cancer patient from a surgeon‘s perspective
In the era of multimodality treatment of NSCLC patients interdisciplinary collaboration is essential. Novel technology on the field of surgery and radiotherapy and inovative systemic treatment requires extensive knowledge that is difficult to obtain for a single thoracic specialist. Therefore the management of lung cancer patients should be guided by the decisions of a multidisciplinary tumour board as advised by many professional societies. In this paper the main advantages of a regular multidisciplinary sessions are identified and each specialist role is explored. Available studies on the impact of multidisciplinary sessions for lung cancer patients are examined. The authors also describe their experience with the implementation of a multidisciplinary tumour board at University hospital Bratislava.
