Febrile neutropenia in oncology practice
Febrile neutropenia (FN) is a serious complication of systemic anticancer therapy associated with a high risk of rapid clinical deterioration. Despite advances in supportive care, it remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in oncology patients. Management of FN is based on early diagnosis, prompt initiation of empirical antimicrobial therapy, and its subsequent adjustment according to the clinical course and microbiological findings. Risk stratification and individualized treatment, taking into account local epidemiology, play a key role.
