Nutrition, stress, lifestyle, epigenetics in skin diseases
Epigenetics in dermatology has a huge impact on the health and appearance of the skin. Explains why skin diseases are not only the result of genetic predisposition, but also of interaction with the enviroment. UV radiation, environmental pollution, stress and smoking can induce epigenetic changes and influence many skin diseases, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and skin tumors. Our lifestyle, diet, and the environment we live in, can influence which genes are „turned on“ and which are „turned off“ without changing our DNA. Epigenetics shows us that the skin aging process can be influenced to a large extent by ourselves. As we age, the epigenetic profile of sour skin cells changes, leading to the loss of elastin and collagen and the formation of wrinkles. Understanding these mechanisms opens the way to new, more targeted treatments and represents a dynamic process that gives us the opportunity to actively paricipate in the health of our skin.
