New trends in anti-aging procedures and applications: a review of evidence, combination strategies, and safety (for dermatologists)

In recent years, aesthetic dermatology has shifted markedly toward non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures that allow targeted modulation of the signs of skin aging while preserving natural facial expression and functional tissue integrity. They are characterized by an expansion of therapeutic indications, including neuromodulators with prolonged duration of action, biologically oriented dermal fillers, collagen-stimulating and regenerative therapies, and advanced forms of local dermatologic treatment. These procedures target multiple levels of the skin aging process, including changes in the epidermis, dermis, extracellular matrix, fat compartments, and muscular dynamics. Available clinical evidence indicates a transition from isolated interventions to combined and sequential protocols, which enable synergistic effects of individual treatments and lead to more predictable and naturally appearing outcomes. Individualization of treatment based on anatomical, biological, and functional patient characteristics, as well as rational timing of individual procedures, plays a key role. At the same time, emphasis is placed on thorough evaluation of safety profiles, particularly for injectable procedures, with a focus on prevention of vascular complications, correct application techniques, and preparedness for the management of adverse reactions.
