Neurofibromatosis

Neurofibromatosis is a hereditary tumor syndrome and as a relatively common autosomal dominant inherited disease, can manifest itself as abnormal growth of Schwann cells. It is characterized by a strong predisposition to the formation of not only benign but also malignant tumors. Some of its manifestations can lead to serious health conditions, in other cases the manifestations are asymptomatic, do not require treatment and thus represent only a cosmetic problem. There is no causal treatment, but a multidisciplinary approach is required in the management of these patients. The course of the disease is chronic. In the article, we will discuss neurofibromatosis type 1 in more detail, which accounts for up to 90% of all cases of neurofibromatosis.
