Multifocal lesion of erythema migrans – case report
Introduction: Erythema migrans is the hallmark clinical manifestation of the early localized stage of infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. Multiple or multifocal erythema migrans lesions are characteristic of the early disseminated stage of the lyme disease. In Europe, such presentations are extremely rare and may therefore pose a significant diagnostic challenge.
Case report: We present the case of a 67-year-old woman with gradually developing generalized annular lesions with central clearing. Based on clinical presentation and serological findings, early disseminated Lyme borreliosis was diagnosed. Systemic treatment with doxycycline resulted in marked regression of the skin lesions.
Conclusion: Multiple erythema migrans lesions may pose a diagnostic challenge, particularly in the absence of a documented tick bite. Early recognition allows appropriate treatment and reduces the risk of systemic complications.
