Contact dermatitis – management and prevention in clinical practice

Contact dermatitis is a common skin inflammation caused by skin contact with an irritant or allergen. The main treatment strategy is to identify the harmful chemical. The gold standard for diagnosis is patch testing. In addition to standard local and systemic treatment, represented by corticosteroids, in recent years the number of clinical trials aimed at treating contact dermatitis with monoclonal antibodies and JAK inhibitors has been increasing. The basis of the preventive strategy is strict avoidance of contact with a confirmed or suspected chemical. The use of protective clothing and gloves, or barrier creams, can help with this.
