Venous diseases in pregnancy and puerperium

This review article deals with the problem of venous system diseases in women during pregnancy and puerperium. Changes in pregnancy that determine and affect the onset or course of venous pathological conditions are described in the article. An outline of illnesses that can affect the life of a pregnant or nursing woman (thrombosis, embolism, bleeding) or significantly impair the quality of life during pregnancy and during the puerperium (varices, swelling, hemorrhoids, lower limb pain) is presented. The overview describes the pitfalls of diagnostics including differential diagnosis of serious pregnancy pathologies (preeclampsia). Further, therapeutic options are described with regard to efficacy at maximum safety in pregnancy and during breastfeeding with the risk of transfer into breast milk and influencing the life and health of a newborn. The article is the overview especially for doctors who do not meet the issue of venous diseases during pregnancy and during breastfeeding regularly.
