Urological complications in patients with multiple sclerosis

Urological complications are among the most common and impactful manifestations of multiple sclerosis, significantly impairing patients’ quality of life. Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction presents with a broad spectrum of symptoms ranging from irritative complaints to urinary retention. Early diagnosis and regular urodynamic evaluations are essential for optimal management. Treatment should be tailored to the type of dysfunction, degree of neurological impairment, and comorbid conditions. Multidisciplinary cooperation between urologists and neurologists improves therapeutic outcomes and reduces the risk of complications such as urinary tract infections or upper tract damage. Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological modern approaches significantly enhance continence and patient comfort.
