Rectal lumen closure – severe complication of Longo procedure

Hemorrhoidopexy by Longo with stapler is common therapeutic procedure and is widely used at many departments due to minimal postoperative analgesia, quick recovery and acceptable recurrence rate. With increased rate of procedures serious complications has been described in literature including rectovaginal fistula, rectal stenosis, anastomosis dehiscence and rectal lumen closure by stapler. In our article we present the latter complication which occurred at our department in 49 year old patient with third grade hemorrhoids. This complication is associated either with incorrect stapler insertion or misplaced purse-string suture.
