The first uniportal VATS lobectomy for lung carcinoma in Slovakia
Since the technique of VATS anatomical resection of lung was first described twenty years ago, lot of departments adopted this method. Few years ago, VATS lobectomy was indicated only for early stages of lung cancer. Lately, pneumonectomy, sleeve resection with bronchoplasty or double sleeve resections are not exception. Contraindications were reduced, indications were extended. In accordance with the trend of miniinvasive procedures and fast-track surgery, uniportal VATS approach has emerged. This novel approach is feasibile for wide scale of thoracic diseases and also for anatomic lung resections. In accordance with new trend, we started with uniportal resections in July2016. First uniportal VATS resection was right upper lobectomy. In a span of one month we performed further five uniportal VATS anatomic resections including four lobectomies and one lingulectomy. By that time, the method seems to be effective and beneficial for patients. In article we present very first results from our initial experience with this approach.
