Presacral tumors – rare pathologic entity (review and case report)

Presacral tumors are uncommon and the precise incidence of them is not known. The symptoms of presacral tumors are nonspecific and often result in delay of diagnosis. It is a reason of unsatisfied results of therapy of malignant presacral tumors. Endorectal ultrasonud (EUS), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and sometimes positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) have become the diagnostic modalities of choice. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment and the outcomes for patients with benign presacral tumors are excellent. The prognosis of patient with malignant tumors could be improved adjuvant and neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Thus multidisciplinary approach is condition of modern management of malignant presacral tumors to maximize successful treatment.
