Percutaneous cholecystostomy – our experience
Introduction: Percutaneous cholecystostomy is considered to be an emergency treatment option in critical ill and elderly patients when conservative treatment of acute cholecystitis fails. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data of patients who underwent a CT guided percutaneous cholecystostomy between 01/2015-01/2017 in surgical department of general hospital in Lucenec. Results: The analysis included 9 patients, 5 males (56%) and 4 females (44%). Average age was 75.4 years. The indication for percutaneous cholecystostomy was severe acute cholecystitis in critically ill patients not responding to conservative therapy. Average lenght of stay was 10.6 days (range 6-19 days). Mortality rate in conjunction with cholecystostomy was 0%. 30-day mortality rate was 33% (3 patients, who died of cariac failure). Recurrence-rate was 11% (1 female patient underwent surgery-open cholecystectomy). Conclusion: CT guided percutaneous cholecystostomy is a safe and effective therapeutic modality in critical ill patients with acute cholecystitis.
