Perforator flaps
Perforator flaps are reliable and safe technique of reconstructive surgery, in which the flap consisting of skin, subcutaneous tissue, and possibly fascia is raised from the area remote or adjacent to the area to be reconstructed. The blood vessels that supply the flap are isolated perforators, leaving the deeper axial, source, parental vessels that after passing through the muscle or intermuscular septum pierce the muscle fascia to feed their final destination vascular plexuses of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The intention of this work is to give the basic understanding of perforator flaps, their anatomy, classification, preoperative imaging techniques and their proper dissection technique.
