New treatment options for diabetes mellitus encapsulation of pancreatic islets
Epidemy of diabetes mellitus represents currently one of the most serious health, social and economic risks. DM is generally divided into 4 groups: DM type 1, DM type 2, gestational DM and specific types of DM. The most attentionis given to patients with DM type 1. Diabetes mellitus type 1 is autoimmune disease, in which human organism is not able to produce enough insulin, which leads to disruption of naturalability of organism to regulate level of glycemia in blood. Patients with this type of diabetes are therefore reliant on administering there placement insulin. Persistent imbalance of blood glucose levels in these patients causes serious health complications and may lead to their death. New hope for patients with DM type 1 arises in form of therapy by encapsulated islets of Langerhans (LI), which could be later used for other types of DM as well.
