Intraabdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome
Intraabdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome belong to the severe complications of diseases affecting abdominal cavity. They almost always represent factors that increase morbidity and mortality whether the development of those syndromes is traumatic or as a complication of intraabdominal or extraabdominal illnesses. It is very important to standardize diagnostic methods, interpretation of the results and to have guidelines for treatment that allow comparison of the results. Recommendations that are helpful in this effort have been published by the World Society of the Abdominal Compartment Syndrome since it´s foundation in 2004. This paper provides a short review of literature, definitions and recommendations updated in 2013.
