Rectus sheath hematoma (RSH) – our experiences

RSH is relatively rare complication of anticoagulant therapy with potentional risk of mortality and morbidity. Occurence of RSH is increasing with widespreading anticoagulant therapy. Early diagnosis and right treatment prevents complications as hemodynamics instability, abdominal compartment syndrome or MOF and MODS. Diagnose of RSH and Berna classification is set with CT. In our report we analyze retrospective 12 patient in age 66 to 87 years treated at our departement during 5 years. 11 patient (91,7 %) were indicated for surgery, 8 patient for RSH type III were indicated right after diagnose, 3 patient were initially treated conservative. Mortality was 25 %. Interdisplinary awereness of this disease is essential, as it is frequently difficult to diagnose, leading to delay in treatment. Huge RSH lead to fatal complication in patient with comorbidity.
