Diverticular disease of large bowel – surgical guidelines treatment of complicated diverticulitis and its consequences
Diverticular disease (DD) has an increasing prevalence. This is due to, inter alia, especially an aging population, since the incidence of the disease increases with age. Symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease and milder forms of diverticulitis are treated by a gastroenterologist. Serious forms of diverticulitis and its consequences fall within the competence of the surgeon. In developed countries, the experts suggested time governed recommendations – guidelines drawn up by the relevant specialists. In the cases of diverticular disease that are gastroenterologist, surgeon and clinical pharmacologist.
