Súčasné možnosti a perspektíva liečby negatívnych príznakov schizofrénie

Negative symptoms associated with schizophrenia are often persistent, tend to chronicity, they are difficult to treat and significantly affect different dimensions of functional outcome. The accurate categorization and assessment of negative symptoms represent a major challenge for research on neurobiological substrates and treatment strategies. Antipsychotics, especially some second-generation antipsychotics, are the treatment of choice, particularly for negative symptoms in the acute episode. In case of residual negative symptoms, limited efficacy on negative symptoms and adverse effects of current antipsychotics raise the need of developing new antipsychotics. Early intervention coupled with innovative therapeutics may offer a promising approach for substantial improvement of the functional outcome of schizophrenia patients.
