Positive vision for negative symptoms of schizophrenia

Treatment of negative symptoms of schizophrenia remains an unresolved therapeutic problem despite successful treatment of positive symptoms. Diagnostic differentiation from depressive symptoms can be problematic especially in prodromal phase of schizophrenia which precedes acute phase for several years and symptoms are often very unspecific. Negative symptoms are usually stable in clinical picture, treatment resistant and they largely decrease the quality of life and functioning of patients with schizophrenia. Cariprazine the new drug at Slovak market seems to be very promising as it showed its efficacy, safety and tolerability in various clinical studies. The case report of a patient and her complicated diagnostic and therapeutic journey with successful ending is also the part of this article.
