Hikikomori
Hikikomori is a culturally determined phenomenon that is not only limited to the Japanese population, but also occurs in young generations in other countries in Europe and Asia. Development of the disease is determined by changes in cultural, social and economic environment of the person, but we do not fully understand its ethology yet. Compared to healthy individuals, patients have higher prevalence of other psychiatric comorbidities. Individuals suffering from Hikkikomori also often suffer from obesity, hypertension and sleeping disorders. We don‘t have a proper way of treating the disorder yet, but the mental health professsionals agree, that treatment should be offered as soon as possible. In therapy, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches are used.
