Role of the pharmacist in treating selected diseases of oral cavity
Pharmacists as medical workers are an important part of maintaining good health, and thus good quality life of patients. Adherence is particularly important. In practice a pharmacist encounters patient problems on a daily basis. Non-adherence fundamentally affects the effectiveness of treatment, directly impacts on the quality of life, and means a dramatic increase in the cost of treatment. A well-known quotation says that medication doesn´t work for a patient who won´t take it. The main role of the pharmacist managing their pharmacy is to provide patients with safe and good quality medications with particular information, and to participate in their health care. The pharmacist is a significant part of health care systems. The pharmacist is the most universal expert on medicines and an end worker who can check or manage the process of patient treatment. The pharmacist encounters patient problems with oral cavity on a daily basis, and thus they should be able to make a right diagnosis and by that also therapy choices. Moreover, the pharmacist is supposed to conclude if it is a serious problem which needs to be treated by the doctor. Pieces of advice for patients should be understandable and clear.
