Solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas – case report

Solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas (SPT) is rare pancreatic tumor with an unclear pathogenesis and good prognosis after its resection. In a group of patients operated on at the Department of Surgery, F. D. Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica for pancreatic tumor in period 1996 – 2015 (20 years), we had 4 cases of pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas. We describe a case of such a tumor which was localised in pancreatic body. This tumor, because of its infiltration, required total duodenopancreatectomy with partial resection of superior mesenteric artery and also subtotal gastric resection and splenectomy. In spite of the fact, that the first laparoscopic operation evaluated tumor as laparoscopically nonresectable, consecutive multiorgan resection enabled to perform curative resection. Radical surgical treatment is the only hope for these patients.
