Antioxidanty v prevencii chronických ochorení – 1. časť: Fyziologické a patologické pôsobenie voľných radikálov

Antioxidants in prevention of chronic diseases – part 1: Physiological and pathological effects of free radicals Free radicals and their negative effects on the human organism have been the subject of many scientific studies in recent decades. Free radicals and oxidants generate a phenomenon called oxidative stress, a deleterious process that can seriously alter the cell membrane. Oxidative damage to DNA leads to the formation of different oxidative DNA lesions which can cause mutations. The imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants plays a well-documented role in the pathogenesis of many chronic diseases. Although they may have negative side effects at high levels, they are also important biological signaling molecules that exert therapeutic and protective effects against diseases.
