Limb elongation in Orthopedic Department of the Medical Faculty at Comenius University and the National Institute of Children´s Diseases

Correction of upper and lower extremity deformities, depending on etiology (prognosis of further development), location, patient age and deformity type, offers a wide range of treatment options. Various techniques and surgical procedures such as osteotomy, epiphysis or bone elongation are to be used. These can solve either angular deviations or limb length deficiency or both. The authors describe currently used options for the treatment of length differences and angular deformities of the limb. Explaining the therapy process from initial planning, thru selection of optimal correction method to achieving the desired results. They also report on the risks and complications associated with selected correction procedures and the fixator types used.
