Neonatal hyperthyroidism

Neonatal hyperthyroidism is a rare disease occurring in 0.05-0.2%. It is a hypermetabolic condition, usually caused by the transfer of maternal TSH receptor stimulating antibodies in mothers suffering from Graves' disease. Symptoms occur during the first week of life. Untreated neonatal hyperthyreosis may lead to death due to heart failure. We present a case report of a newborn with this rare diagnosis.
