Smerovanie onkologického výskumu na Slovensku – názor
Direction of oncological research in Slovakia – an opinion
Defining a further direction of oncology research in Slovakia can not be complete without looking back into the history of experimental oncology, which has grown on the idea of interconnection of research and treatment of tumors. The example of strategy of European institutes to keep up with the world‘s leading providers of healthcare in oncology is described. The input of bioinformatics in the field of processing and interpretation of big data as well as of Internet into the communication of all stakeholders is presented. The attention is drawn to the need for wider, transdisciplinary cooperation, not exempting social science and rediscovering the importance of prevention based on scientific knowledge. Fulfilling this mission requires, in addition to communication of scientists and physicians, patients‘ engagement, with the support of individuals, society and politicians. The article expresses the author‘s opinion on the further direction of oncological research in Slovakia.
