From molecular biology to the next-generation sequencing – genome-guided cancer therapy decisions

Methods of molecular biology and genomics have found significant applications in molecular pathology for the indication of targeted therapy. The further development of technology, especially the next-generation sequencing using gene panels, whole exome and whole genome sequencing approaches, have led to the expansion of opportunities for large scale clinical studies and to the identification of new potentially actionable mutations. NGS workflows and their bioinformatics evalutation become a part of routine clinical practice. The precise medicine based on the personalized therapy approach can utilize NGS results of circulating tumor DNA and genomic-guided therapy decisions based on the identification of actionable mutations in an agnostic manner.
