Malignant inverted papilloma with postsurgical complication brain abscess – case report
Purpose: Being an otorinolaryngologist we deal with the diagnosis- inverted papilloma. It is a benign epithelial tumor of sinonasal area. Tumor behavior differs from other tumor by three main features: relative local aggression, high level of recurrence and association with cancer. In this article, we are emphasizing your attention to treatment of this pathology, connection to malignancy and remind about possible complication brain abscess. Case report: We are presenting 66 years old pacient with inverted papilloma of nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses on the left side. Histologically has been confirmed a high level of dysplasia, carcinoma in situ and squamous cell carcinoma. We have analyzed the history, imaging examinations of this patient and disease progression. One of the possible complications after the surgery is cerebral abscess. Conclusion: The method of choice in therapy of inverted papilloma is surgical resection. Early diagnosis, complete resection and regular follow up are very important because of its possibility of malignancy and frequent relapses.
