Malignant lymphomas and fertility
The increased occurrence of malignant lymphoproliferative diseases of people at reproductive age requires to pay more attention to fertility issues. According to www.lymphomacoalition.org approximately 115,000 lymphomas are newly diagnosed in Europe every year, 15% with Hodgkin‘s lymphoma (HL), and 85% with Non-Hodgkin‘s lymphoma (NHL). The number of patients below the age of 34 is about 13,000. As cancer treatment results improve, the number of long-term surviving and cured patients is increasing, as well as the potential to maintain fertility, contributing to better well-being of patients and improving their quality of life. In addition to the already available methods of preservation and restoration of fertility, it is the task of the research studies to provide, develop and expand other appropriate methods and procedures to reduce the adverse effects of oncology treatment on gonads and to set up safe and especially effective treatment for infertility
