Diagnosis and prognostic score in a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is an indication for a heterogeneous clone of hematopoietic stem cell disease characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis, peripheral cytopenias, normal or increased bone marrow cell counts with numerous dysplastic changes and increased risk of transformation into acute myeloblast leukemia (AML). MDS occurs predominantly in elderly patients with a high probability of comorbidity, which aggravates its natural course and limits the application of aggressive procedures. The situation complicates numerous infectious and non-infectious complications with serious clinical as well as economic consequences. As a result of new knowledge and the development of diagnostic methods, there was a need for a review of diagnostic and treatment strategies for MDS patients.
